There are plenty of happening, bars and clubs across Canada where gay travellers can shake winters chill and flirt the night away.

Beaches in Canada? Yup. Naked Canadians on the sand or grass? Yup, got that, too. Eight years ago, when I started “discovering” natural Canadians communing with nature, it nearly shocked my pants off. Then I realized it was acceptable on many beaches to just take them off. To take it all off, that is.

If there’s one brand LGBT* Americans are loyal to, it’s Canada. And not just because we’ve got sweeter views of Niagara Falls. We offer freedom to marry, cultural scenes that embrace everyone and gay-welcoming cities (with or without oceanfront views).

The first global search for Mr. Gay World is set to take place February 4-8, 2009.

Hosted in the idyllic mountain resort of Whistler, BC, the primary purpose of the Mr. Gay Canada (MGC) is to identify leaders who will take responsibility not only in his own community but also on a global stage speaking out for equal rights. I’ve been lucky enough to visit all 13 Canadian provinces and territories, and while there are hunky guys in every corner, Calgary consistently delivers the best man-scenery.

It may be the world’s wackiest rodeo: goats in panties, cowboys in gowns and a campground decorated with rainbow flags. But one thing’s for sure: this is real rodeo. A 907-kg (2,000-lb) bull doesn’t care if the cowboy on his back is gay or straight. The bull bucks and twists for six intense seconds either way. But at thisrodeo, the bull rider might be a cowgirl.
