Carolyne and I can’t live without our Smartphones, especially being on this journey across Canada. We also tend to lose important paper documents (sometimes).

That’s why we’re so glad that Air Canada, our sponsor, has a paperless boarding pass for mobile users.

I’m not sure if I told you, but we decided to rent a car and drive it from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Prince Edward Island and then to New Brunswick, covering some major territory.

After our morning mussel plant tour and raking in a dozen oysters from Raspberry Point Oysters, we were ready to eat, drink and be merry before driving over the Confederation Bridge to Shediac, New Brunswick.  

As soon as I saw the five-foot plastic lobster spread out on top of John Bil’s mini-van, and the branded license plate “OYSTER,” I knew we’d be entertained for the day: We were going to experience a day in the lives of a mussel-harvesting tycoon and an oyster farmer. 

It’s 6:15 am and the alarm just went off. We’re in Charlottetown at the Great George Hotel, and I wish I could enjoy my lovely room with hour longer.

“Now, Victoria, you will need to change your white t-shirt into a dark one and put some runners on, because you will get wet,” said Heather, one of the organizers of our tidal bore rafting adventure in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia.

During this trip, I’m feeling a bit like a time traveller, especially in the smaller communities, where the doors of homes aren’t locked, everybody does really know your name (if you can stay long enough), and there is always a Main Street.

Hitting snags is mandatory on this excursion. 

It was warm, frothy and aromatic with fragrances of earthy-and-spicy truffles.  If I didn’t know that it sipping on a shot of warm lobster bisque, I could’ve mistaken it for a nutmeg latte.

Carolyne and I have a running joke about Beavertails. They’re those incredibly seductive, deep-fried sugary desserts that we always want to have, but can’t.  And they show up everywhere we go, even in St. John’s.
