Head to ‘New Scotland,’ lad, for Celtic Colours fest, single malt homebrew.

by Michelle Pentz Glave

Yeah, it’s got the makings of an alternative rock video for sure: wind blasting oceanside cliffs. Waves crashing. Fiddlers and pipers jamming on the moors. Guys in kilts and bulky sheep’s wool cableknit sweaters. But anyone can get into Nova Scotia’s (that’s New Scotland, mate) Celtic Colours International Festival.

Really, it’s just a nine-day excuse to sneak off to this gorgeous rugged island in Nova Scotia on Canada’s east coast. This shindig is an island-wide celebation of Celtic culture, particularly music. Some 250 community events, concerts, workshops, visual art exhibits, guided walks, bike rides and boat tours are on the line-up for this year’s Oct. 8 to 16 hoopla.

There’s the spectacular fall colours this time of year, and more importantly, home brew. Stop in at Glenora Inn & Distillery for single malt (North America’s only). There are tours of the distillery, plus a pub and country inn.

Anyone out there tried Glenora Scotch?
