New CTC reports paint detailed picture of top global travel markets.

Annual tourism country profiles by CTC Research give key tourism markets head-to-toe examination.

by CTC News Staff

Modern business is all about being well-informed and sharing that knowledge. To that end, the Research department of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) has just released a new series of annual reports that give a detailed tourism profile of CTC’s nine core markets: the US, UK, Germany, France, China, South Korea, Japan, Australia and Mexico.

The reports are broken down into eight sections. First up are big dollars and cents, with a look at each country’s economic environment and its influences on the tourism industry. There’s an overview of performance in 2008, travel volumes and spending, price competitiveness compared with other markets since 2000, plus financial forecasts.

“Travel trends and characteristics” looks at the reasons for travel from each market (such as business or leisure), expenditure per trip and number of nights spent in Canada. The demographic profile section considers age range, gender and make-up of each travel group (single, family, adults).

There are also population and travel forecasts, including a detailed look at direct airline capacity, a close-up of each country’s Internet usage and a SWOT (strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats) analysis.

The US report differs from the other eight in that it includes a section on auto travel—a slightly tricky proposition from Asia or Europe! The commission will publish the tourism market profiles annually in the third quarter.
