It happened years ago, but I’ll never forget that warm, wet kiss. We were sitting on a rocky outcropping overlooking Yellowknife’s Back Bay. It was spring and the sun was heating the rock beneath our bums. I turned to him and he planted a big smooch on my surprised face, then wagged his tail and probably ran off to chase a squirrel.
Romantic? Hardly, but I figure it still counts as a memorable kiss in a beautiful part of our country, so I’ve added it to the Canada Kiss Map.
Toronto writer Chris Kay Fraser started the interactive map last Valentine’s Day so people could share their intimate Canadian moments.
Since then, hundreds of kisses have been plotted, like this one at Cape Scott Provincial Park on Vancouver Island: “Treacherous 18 km hike in the rain with gear on our backs... But what a reward – kilometres of pristine beach… The ocean surf crashed around the tent... The kisses were a celebration, and a promise to one day return.”
At the opposite end of the country, someone remembers this heart-warming kiss in St. John’s, Newfoundland. “A cold blustery night looking out over the harbour, snow blowing in our eyes. Hot, exciting, tender….”
Canada probably has a gazillion places that will make you want to pucker up, so what are you waiting for?
