My northern bucket list - part 1

by Teresa Earle

Teresa Earle has spent 15 years exploring Canada’s North, but she still has a yearning to see more. With bucket lists all the rage, we asked Earle to come with her own life list for discovering new lands North of Sixty, delivered to our media centre one amazing experience at a time.

1. Nahanni River (NWT)

I’m already on record in an earlier post about river rafting: the Nahanni is parked on my wish list. A treasured national park reserve, a Canadian Heritage River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the unparalleled Virginia Falls and a recent six-fold park expansion easily win a spot for this iconic destination. Plus, I find Canadiana charming, and the Nahanni is so Canadian—a mishmash of classic images, from trappers and prospectors in fur-laden canoes, to a youthful-looking Pierre Trudeau at the cleaving falls, to rafts dwarfed by Nahanni’s soaring canyon walls.
