A little bit of Montréal has come west to Vancouver. And much to the delight of those of us who live on the West Coast, it’s one of the tastiest bits.
Dunn’s Famous Restaurant and Delicatessen– a much-loved Montréal establishment – has deigned to offer its smoked meat sandwiches, Reubens, poutine, matzoh ball soup and other favourites to Vancouverites.
They must love us!
No more drumming up excuses to make a business trip to Montréal to get your fix of Dunn’s double A beef brisket that has been smoked for 17 hours, then steamed for three hours to create the perfect tender smoked meat mouthful.
It took months of training in Montréal and Vancouver for the new team to learn the recipes and processes that have made Dunn’s legendary. They begin with Dunn’s unique brine and end with slicing the butter-tender beef by hand – always by hand – before layering it on light rye sourdough bread.
Westcoasters will feel like they’re in Québec when they check out the poutines at Dunn’s; six varieties are made with hand-cut Kennebec potatoes and served with fresh cheese curds and various toppings.
It would be a shame, but with 42 items on Dunn’s menu, Vancouverites may feel no need to go to Montréal ever again.
