New culinary walking tour in foodie central: Québec City, QC.

by Margo Pfeiff

Given Québec City’s culinary reputation, it’s no surprise that a brand new walking tour that takes in a wide mouthful of the provincial capital’s legendary foodie treats has been so successful (since it started in May) that it’s already a year-round event.

“We thought the numbers would fall off by late October, but there’s so much interest, we are keeping a Saturday tour going throughout winter,” says Sébastien Ivers, owner of the walking tour company, Tours Voir Québec. In summer, culinary tours are available Tuesday through Saturday.

A professional guide leads the 2½-hour edible excursion to shops and restaurants in the picturesque Saint Jean neighbourhood outside the Old City walls. The first stop is at a provincial SAQ liquor store for samples of Québec-created ice ciders and ice wines. Next, sample all things maple from tea to butter and waffles at the Maple Delights Bistro. Nibble handmade goodies at a chocolate museum before tucking into local cheeses at Maison Jean-Alfred Moisan, one of North America’s oldest grocery stores. Finish up with traditional Brittany-style crepes at Le Billig, paired up with local sparkling cider or beer. Bon Appétit!
