Or will that be jumping on the bed, while taking in the royal nuptials to be broadcast in the middle of the night in many parts of Canada? Celebrations are planned across the country ranging all the way from private pyjama parties complete with British-themed menus to special-issue coins and stamps.
In that very British-flavoured city of Victoria, BC the locals are going all out to join the festivities around the Wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton. At the Fairmont Empress Hotel (a setting close enough to any royal castle!) the Royal Subjects Tea will be served on the front lawn to guests attired in stylish hats and accompanied by their dogs dressed in their own finest royal wedding costumes. For a special royal dinner, the hotel will bring out the Queen’s China, used only by Her Majesty up to now! Also scheduled is a "Rise & Shine with the Royals” package, where Empress guests are invited to watch the live 3 am broadcast, while enjoying a sumptuous breakfast (pyjamas welcome).
Other Fairmont hotels across the country, such as Calgary’s Palliser and Toronto’s Royal York, will also serve royally themed breakfasts.
On Canada’s east coast the timing is a bit more civilized and many venues are planning special 7 am breakfasts; Halifax residents will be getting out their fancy hats for a royal wedding watching party.
Canada Post opened its Royal Wedding Shop on April 15 with an extensive array of wedding-themed merchandise from stamps to coins with prices starting at an affordable $2.34. Perhaps what seems a little less of a bargain - the Royal Canadian Mint’s 25-cent coin priced at $25.95.
