It’d be an understatement to say that Carolyne and I love food. I think one of the few instances that we were actually early, waiting in the lobby impatiently, was when there was a good dinner date organized for us.
And we don’t discriminate. We love all kinds of food: Fried, broiled, roasted on an open-pit or rare, we’re ready and willing participants in most culinary adventures.
With that in mind, here are some my favourite places we indulged, entertained, cleansed and amused our palates.
It could have been the handmade Ceasar that was served with a celery stalk dripping in Cheeze Whiz. Or maybe it was the elk kelibassa, marinated ox tongue and duck terrine plate. I'm not sure what it was, but I was intoxicated after our visit here. A Murray good combination at most.
Jeremy Charles’ cliffside haven is one of the most innovative, delicate and elegant meals I tasted during this trip. Not overdone, the dishes accentuated the fish, meats and organic produce available in the province. Creating a new Canadian culinary culture, the dishes are unforgettable.
Preserving artifacts dating back to 1687, the Auberge Saint-Antoine hotel boasts elegance and amenities like many Relais & Cheteaux hotels. But this location has one more advantage: It has Panache.
Francois Blais heads the kitchen of this world renowned restaurant. The dining room's interior is actually constructed from an old warehouse that stood there, hundreds of years ago. Now beaming with exposed brick walls and distinction, the spotlight also shines on the menu. The French Canadian cuisine is authentic to the core, inclusive of the sweet breads, foie gras and terrines.
The fragrant-and-deep-fried spicy ceci or chickpeas had us salivating long before we had a taste. (The mint garnish helped cool the heat.) The Italian fusion restaurant serves salumi boards of house-cured meats; oily soppressatas and saucions make the knees go weak, while paper-thin handmade pastas, cheeses and wines make you wish you could eat like this all day long, and NOT have to go for a run the next day. Ma Donna!
Rugged like the stealth-looking mountains that serve as the backdrop, the menu at Bison stands tall and doesn't need any chaperoning. A meat-lovers’ paradise, it's all about the venison, bison and the Alberta "aaa" beef here. They're grilled, roasted, braised and married with other local favourites to cook up perfection. They are the must-haves. The pork plate also gets a notable mention, if I only had room.

I've been there in Canada for a vacation and I love their food. Especially their DONUTS!, then Bacon, then maple syrup I love the taste of those foods.
The food in the provinces of Eastern Canada shows signs of English heritage, except in Quebec where the influence is French.
