Travel + Leisure readers put eight hotels among the best

by Suzanne Morphet

The Wick has done it again. It has topped Travel + Leisure magazine’s ‘best hotels in Canada’ list for the second year in a row.

The Wickaninnish Inn – in blustery Tofino, British Columbia – is among eight Canadian hotels of the 500 Best Hotels in the World.

Every year T+L readers are invited to participate in a survey to find the very best hotels based on location, rooms, service, restaurants and value.

The Wick got a score of 91.67 out of a possible 100, no doubt due in part to managing director Charles McDiarmid’s passion for details and perfection. It doesn’t hurt that the Wickaninnish sits on a promontory of rock that juts into the wild Pacific Ocean. Or that you can lounge in your soaker tub watching winter storms lash the outside of your floor-to-ceiling window.

Close on the Wick’s heels is the Four Season Resort in Whistler, BC, close to ski lifts and the village. “Aprés-ski here means having the concierge arrange a dogsled ride through the forest to an alfresco dinner for two, served under a heated canopy,” notes the magazine.

Other Canadian hotels on Travel + Leisure’s list are:

Fairmont Vancouver Airport, BC

Fairmont Chateau Whistler, BC

Four Seasons Hotel, Vancouver, BC

Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Alberta

Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac, Québec City

Auberge Saint-Antoine, Québec City
