The sculptors are coming, the sculptors are coming!

Sculptors from across Canada are entered in the 2009 sculpture competition at Kingsbrae Garden, in St Andrews, NB. Extensive water features grace the new Sculpture Garden.

The call for sculptors went out and the response was remarkable. Kingsbrae Garden has a considerable line-up of artists from across Canada working on their submissions for its first annual sculpture competition in St. Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick. Moreover, there are artists already on board for 2010.

From the many sculptors who submitted a photo, sketch or maquette for consideration, seventeen have been admitted to the competition:
Alanna Baird, ON, Mark Breckenridge,ON, Kim Cookson, NB , Brett Davis, ON , Ron Davis, NB , Bozena Happach, QC , Tonya Hart, ON, Gerard Kelly, NL, Po Chun Lau, ON , Andrea Locke, NB , Tobias Luttmer, AB , Serge Mozhnevsky, BC , Kerry O'Toole, NB , Marianne Reim, ON , Denis St-Pierre, QC , Veit Weber, NB , Lawrence Wuest, NB

To celebrate its 10th anniversary season, Kingsbrae Garden has combined art and horticulture in a brand-new garden exhibition space, where each year's winning works will be on permanent display, adding to the current collection. Widely varied visions, media and sculpting styles are sure to produce a wonderful show throughout the 2009 season and beyond, as the Sculpture Garden is augmented each year with winning creations. Extensive water features and innovative plantings set the stage for the competition.

The 27-acre public garden already has a dozen sculptures in its collection, placed in many of the themed gardens around the site. Wind Dance makes gentle arabesques in the breeze across the pond from the windmill, with bright hand-blown glass plates sparkling in the sun. The Dragon keeps watch over the Spring Garden and pergola leading to the Scents & Sensitivity, Organic Vegetable and Therapy Gardens (both works by Don Pell). Art meets garden… enhancing both.
