Pining for diamonds (guilt-free)

Did you know Canada’s NWT is one of the world’s top diamond producers?

Rock. Crystal. Ice. Thinking lustrous diamond ring or dazzling arctic landscape? Correct, on both counts. Canada ranks in the world’s top-three diamond-producing countries. Mining exploration teams recently discovered a treasure trove of pristine-quality, conflict-free carats in Canada’s Northwest Territories. And here’s your opportunity to snag a few gems to call your own. But don’t dawdle. Fans along the lines of Sex and the City’s Sarah Jessica Parker and singing diva Mariah Carey are snapping up these precious stones as they roll out from under the tundra.

Right on cue, Horizon & Co., a boutique travel agency, has created the ultimate Far North diamond tour. “Winter Ice” is a six-day swoon through Yellowknife, NWT and the surrounding area in high style. Fly into your luxelodge, then swoosh over crystalline snow bundled ‘n cozy on your custom dog sled. Dine on lake trout grilled over an open fire and caribou braised in red wine. Settle back with chilled sauvignon blanc. You’ll even get to make the first cuts in a rough diamond at the elite Aurora College and get the inside scoop on every girl’s best friend. The Winter Ice tour “is where epiphanies happen,” says Andrew White, Horizon & Co. sales director.

If your epiphanies are of the private jet variety, ask about the U.S. $160,000 tour version. That’s 25 hours of flying in the Bombardier Skyjet and CAN $10,000 in Canadian diamonds. Now that’s nice ice, baby! www.horizon-co.com
