Canada in fall—your to-do list

Paddle through spectacular fjords. Hike the longest network of multi-use recreational trails in the world. The list goes on.

It’s no wonder Canadians love autumn. The bugs are gone, the heat and humidity have evaporated along with the summer crowds, the forests are turning red and gold before your eyes, farmers’ markets are bursting with produce. 
Here’s how to make the most of the season outdoors in Canada:
1. Paddle a canoe. Early fur traders paddled birchbark canoes with Aboriginal guides. Today, outfitting companies will guide you or you can rent a canoe on your own. (Read more about paddling in Canada.) Some classic Canadian canoe routes include:
 

2. Bike or hike a trail. Canada has the longest network of multi-use recreational trails in the world. The following sections of the Trans Canada Trail are good for autumn colour:
 

3. Visit a farmers’ market. These markets are indoors, but the produce is so fresh you might just think you’re in the farmers’ fields. Read more about farmer’s markets in Canada.
