Toronto Gladstone Hotel’s ‘Harvest Wednesdays.’

And the locavore trend continues… ON chef connecting urbanites to area farmers, cheese makers, vintners.

There’s been a lot of buzz about farm-to-table eating lately. While the notion has undeniable idyllic allure—I imagine rambling through green pastures in an Etro maxi-dress, plucking and nibbling my dinner as I go—where does the average urban dweller find such bounty? Apparently at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto, ON, where Harvest Wednesdays connect city folk to the land that feeds them.

Veggies harvested in rhythm with the growing season, local meats and artisanal cheeses—all come together in executive chef Marc Breton’s gloriously simple preparations that let the pure flavours sing. Take a peek at sample menus. Did I mention that Gladstone is pouring locally produced wine and beer, too? I’m not exactly ready to give up my imported Prosciutto di Parma whole hog, but suddenly sustainable living does sound rather scrumptious.

Harvest Wednesdays run now through Oct. 22. Stop by for a “tasting” at the beginning of each month ($15) and mingle with local producers as you sample their fare, or sit down to a weekly four-course prix fixe ($35). Go soon, and go often. Menus change weekly, naturally, so there’s always something farm fresh to discover.
