Fabulous Le Scandinave Spa Whistler opens in fabulous British Columbia ski village.

The famed Le Scandinave concept at this new location will mix North American aesthetics with a more medicinal Euro approach. And then there’s the whole après-ski th

by Jessica Raya

Those of us who prefer hot toddies in the lodge to black-diamond runs can finally get that enviable skier’s glow without ever hitting the slopes. Come Fall 2009, Le Scandinave Spa Whistler will open on the west coast, bringing its fittingly Nordic approach to British Columbia’s stunning Whistler Mountain setting.

Destined to be a hit with snow bunnies and Olympic athletes alike, Le Scandinave’s concept, already famous on Canada’s east coast, encompasses the Nordic day-spa tradition of using thermotherapy. Scandinavian baths have long been known for their energizing, relaxing and detoxifying benefits. You can relax your conscience, too. Etched into the mountain face of pristine Spruce Grove Park, the 1,858-sq-m (20,000-sq-ft) facility will include green features (landscaping with regional flora, green roofs) and a health-focused bistro.

I have no doubt Le Scandinave Spa Whistler is worth the wait. You’d be hard pressed to find a more complimentary mix of treatments, design and location. My only question is: what took ‘em so darn long? I could ponder it, but I’d rather give over my inner Viking to the rejuvenating effects of a Norwegian steam bath with eucalyptus, a rinse in a Nordic waterfall and add in a glorious Swedish, hot stones, or Thai yoga massage. After a few hours of that, I’ll be ready to take on those infamous Blackcomb moguls—or, more likely, a rousing game of rummy in the lodge.
