‘TAP into TO!’ is your passport to Toronto, ON.

New program gives visitors the inside scoop on Canada’s Big Apple.

Big city, Toronto, ON. Canada’s biggest. Pretty intimidating if you come to visit and don’t have the inside scoop. But nowadays, with a program called “TAP into TO!,” you’ve got the hookup. The best souvlaki in Greektown? The best Chinese food on Dundas? Check and check. Tackle a “when in Rome” Toronto-style? Check.

Volunteer greeters accommodate groups of up to six with tours that cater to your interests. Or they’ll share their city favourites. Ambassadors include foodies and shopaholics, history buffs and culture vultures. The two-to-four-hour tour comes with a quick overview of the city and a guide to the transit system.

According to Maryland (USA) visitor Monique Coleman, the program is “a must-see attraction for your family visit.”

Best of all it’s free. You don’t have to worry if your English isn’t the best—personal tour guides speak a variety of lingos (over 35!). Fill out TAP into TO!’s online form and pick the time and place, the demographics and interests of your group.

For a while they called Toronto “Muddy York,” then it was Hogtown. For a lot of years—due to rather conservative values and a wealth of churches—it was known as Toronto the Good. What’s next?

For the online form, go to www.toronto.ca/tapto, e-mail tapto@toronto.ca or call 416-33-TAP-TO (416-338-2786).
